JOB SUMMARY
To assist the Unit Manager to effectively manage the nursing staff on the unit through planning of off-duty rotas and the deployment of staff
Promote good liaison with the relatives of residents and outside agencies
To participate in evaluating and improving all nursing standards and functions of Nightingale, in conjunction with others, thus ensuring residents are receiving holistic and person centred care of the highest quality and to CQC standards.
Maintaining and updating evidence based practice.
To assist the Unit Manager to establish and develop effective relationships with a range of managers, clinicians and staff within Nightingale and to plan and facilitate changes and innovation in practice.
To maintain a sound and current knowledge of care issues in relation to older people.
To be aware of relevant legislation governing residential and nursing home
Engage in clinical practice on a regular basis to enhance clinical relationships and maintain personal practice skills
To conduct 1:1 staff supervisions every two months for staff allocated to them.
To meet associated national guidelines and fully abide by their guidance and be fully conversant with the Code of Practice of the post holders professional body.
To assist the Unit Manager to utilise a range of research methods and findings to help monitor and review, modify and improve practice, ensuring the highest possible standards of care are maintained.
To participate in any on duty or out-of-hours rosters as required, including working opposite the Unit Manager.
To be responsible for the unit in the absence of the Unit Manager.
Qualifications & Experience Required
Registered Nurse Level Two
To have substantive experience in caring for older people in a nursing or residential setting.
Knowledge of current practice in relation to older people
To show evidence of developing effective leadership and organisational qualities, including a knowledge of communication skills required to effectively manage staff and other resources.
An ability to encourage and enable staff to continue their professional development
Ability to work on a rostered basis, including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays in order to meet the needs of the service.

Supporting and reporting to the Unit manager, you will supervise a team of nurses and health care staff and also provide hands on clinical care to our residents.
You should at least hold a nursing qualification and also have relevant experience of working with frail elders, in particular those with dementia.

Nightingale Information Sheet
Nightingale is the largest residential and nursing home for older people in the United Kingdom, caring for nearly 250 residents from one location. We are a specialist resource for older members of the Jewish community.
History
Nightingale is a registered charity that has been in existence since 1840 having been founded in the East End of London to provide services to older members of the Jewish community. Nightingale moved to its current location in 1907, the original building having been donated by Lord Wandsworth for the use of the charity.
Location
Nightingale is located in South West London, being equidistant between Clapham and Wandsworth Commons.
Transport
Nightingale is within 10 minutes walk of either Clapham South Underground or Wandsworth Common Mainline Station. Local bus services also operate. Limited parking facilities exist on site which operate on a "first come first served" basis, with limited street parking being available in the locality at given times in the day.
Management
The Trustees maintain an overview of the work of Nightingale. Nightingale is managed on a day-to-day basis by a Chief Executive supported by the Senior Management Team together with a number of Heads of Department. The management structure can be seen on our Who's who at Nightingale page.
Staff
Nightingale employs over 300 staff who work in the following departments:

Nursing employs by far the largest number of staff, including a bank of staff who assist by meeting gaps in the roster of permanently employed qualified Nursing and Healthcare Worker staff.

Dietary Laws
As a home for members of the Jewish community, Nightingale complies with the Jewish dietary laws. This means that no foodstuffs, other than fresh fruit, may be brought onto the premises at any time.

A subsidised staff restaurant operates, providing a range of foods from sandwiches and rolls, salads to soup, main course and dessert at lunchtime. A breakfast service is also available.

No Smoking Policy
To comply with the Health Act 2006 Nightingale operates a no smoking policy, although there is an external area for those staff who do smoke which may be used during authorised breaks in work.
