This hard working committee held their annual bridge event at WIZO house in London’s West End recently. Stalwart supporters, Sheila & Charles Clore, have been running this popular event for many years which attracts a strong following. The event, as usual, was an instant sell out.
A lively, popular and well established committee whose supporters are mainly from south of the River. The Funday Sunday has proved to be a great success for few years with their built in “Nightingale's Got Talent” competition which has attracted a variety of acts which in turn bringing many visitors to the Home for a day of fun and lots of activities for all ages to enjoy.
Since the inception of this Committee, they have held impressive events at first class venues in London. High profile speakers have included Edwina Currie, Penny Vincenzi, The Late Sheridan Morley, Fay Weldon, the late Dame Beryl Bainbridge, Ronald Allison, Anne Widdecombe, Tracy Chevalier and Jeffrey Archer. Claridge's in Mayfair was the venue for this year’s lunch with Guest Speaker Man Booker Prize winning author Howard Jacobson.
This young committee came on the scene in 2003 and their launch event was a “Salsa Evening”. They have gone from strength to strength with various innovative fundraising events including a Jazz and Monte Carlo Magic evenings and a cabaret night at the renowned Cafe de Paris. Their recent party nights took place at the Kingpin Suite in Tavistock Square and Gilgamesh in Camden.
This is a newly formed committee with students from sixth form. It is most heart warming to see such wonderful support from the young helping the old.
Regular events are held in the Nightingale concert hall for relatives and volunteers in the form of supper quizzes and musical performances.
The launch of this event in partnership of Jewish Book Week took place in 2009 with author Linda Grant and Holocaust survivor Catherine Hill, attracting over 80 guests. Over 100 guests attended last year’s brunch to hear American author of the The Red Tent, Anita Diamant, who gave an interesting insight in her writing and her family background. This year our guest was Alegra Goodman.
Good friends of the Home Carole and Clive have been holding annually an afternoon tea in a marquee in their beautiful garden which is attended by over 50 loyal supporters of the Home. They come along to enjoy the traditional smoked salmon bagels and home baked scones with cream and cakes with a lovely cuppa tea. It’s a great opportunity to catch up with friends you haven’t seen for a while and at the same time help raise funds for the Home.
The Super Annual Golf Tournament organised by Maurice Edward and John Austin is held on the greens of the spectacular Coombe Golf Club. This event is open to all keen golfers who whilst raising money for Nightingale have a chance to show off their handicap.
The Home owns 5 Golden Bonds which guarantees places in the London Marathon each year. This year our runners raise over £17,000 in support of our residents.
We hold 12 debentures for this annual event which takes place in the heart of London covering 10k. It’s a great run and perhaps good experience for future runners! Do please contact us if you are interested in running.
