Fundraising committees and events

North West London Society

This hard working committee hold an annual Bridge Supper. Their last event was held at North Western Reform Synagogue, Alyth Gardens, in December 2011. The amount raised was double that raised in January 2011 and the format of the competition changed from Chicago to Duplicate and Rubber Bridge.  The next date set for this popular event will be in April 2013.

South West London Society

A lively, popular and well- established committee whose supporters are mainly based south of the River. Funday Sunday has proved to be a great success for many years and this year keeping in line with the greatest international sporting event the theme of the day will be the Olympics, with lots of activities for all ages to enjoy. Watch out for our programme of events!

Literary Lunch Committee

Since the inception of this committee, they have held prestigious events at first class venues in London. High profile speakers have included Edwina Currie, Penny Vincenzi, The late Sheridan Morley, Fay Weldon, the late Dame Beryl Bainbridge, Ronald Allison, Anne Widdecombe, Tracy Chevalier and Jeffrey Archer. Claridge's in Mayfair was the venue for their 2010 luncheon with guest speaker and Man Booker Prize winning author Howard Jacobson.     Our guest speaker for this year’s event is Deborah Moggach.

The Business Group

This new committee was formed in 2011 and launched with a successful lunch in April last year with guest speaker David Tyler, Chairman of Sainsbury and Logica. Over 90 business professionals gathered to hear David discuss the fundamental elements behind running a successful supermarket chain and the difficulties retail businesses are facing in the current economic climate.   This year's guest speaker is Mark Sebba.

The YNC

The launch of this committee took place in May 2011 with a Pub quiz in Clapham, compered and entertained by comedian David Schneider. Nearly 100 people came to support the Home hence raising funds including further support and sponsorship from local businesses. Following the success of this event a Casino Night was held at Opal Bar in the West End .Players gathered around casino tables playing Roulette and Black Jack and the DJ entertained the guests with a great choice of music. The event proved a success raising much needed funds. Three winners were sent back home with good prizes!! The committee are looking to repeat the Pub Quiz in the summer by popular demand!!

Nightingale Youth Committee

The JFS students from sixth form have supported Nightingale with a variety of events over the last 2 years and their final event a Balloon Race was held on the grounds of Nightingale which brought great joy to our residents. The committee left that legacy by recruiting new sixth form students who visited the Home to spend time with our residents listening to their wonderful stories over a cup of tea. They carried their first event “Guess the number of sweets in the Jar” raising a tidy sum. It is most heart warming to see such wonderful support from the young helping the old.

Mum’s & Kids Group

Having formed various committees over the years we thought it would bring joy to our residents if we got mums with young children involved. A Mum’s Group was formed and last September they staged a great Teddy Bears Picnic in our Concert Hall with some 25 children, parents and their grandparents. A great afternoon with plenty of fun and games and a choice of food and drinks was enjoyed by all. We are looking forward to holding another event in the summer.

Winter Supper Quiz

This has proven to be very popular over the last couple of years attracting over 100 people to the Home.  Run by Helen and Anthony Spiro and Alexander and John Dembitz, it is an evening of fun with brings out a great competitive spirit for all those who come and participant. Beat the winter blues and do come and join in the fun at our next quiz in December 2012.

Relatives Committee

An inaugural High Tea even is being held at Nightingale House in April and later in the summer a relative is holding a Garden Party at her home.

Hammerson House Garden Party

The Hammerson House Garden Party is taking place on 14th July with a themed event of "Bastille Day".

Golf Tournament

The Super Annual Golf Tournament organised by Maurice Edward and John Austin  is held on the greens of the spectacular Coombe Golf Club. This event is open to all keen golfers who whilst raising money for Nightingale have a chance to show off their handicap.

The Golden Bonds which guarantees five places in the London Marathon are very popular and sought after immediately.

We hold 12 debentures  in the Asics British 10K London Run which takes place in the heart of London covering 10k. It’s a great run and perhaps good experience for those who may eventually want to brave the marathon!
