Activities

At the very heart of Nightingale is our exceptional activities programme. Nightingale’s central vision is to provide the maximum possible of stimulating and enjoyable activities for our residents, in order to enrich their quality of life.

The Activities Team works tirelessly to understand the needs of each resident from the day they join us and throughout their time at Nightingale, in order to develop as personalised an activities programme for them as possible. With residents from all walks of life, with a diverse range of hobbies and interests and differing physical and mental ability, the challenge is to ensure that there is something for everyone – both to entertain and to keep mind and body active.

The dedicated Activities Team guarantee that suitable activities meet all physical, emotional and cultural needs; from Tai Chi to tea parties, pottery, poetry, bridge, Yiddish groups, concerts, celebrity visits, music appreciation and film festivals. Small groups of residents can gather in the various lounges for activities such as discussions, card games and literature appreciation.

Residents can also enjoy volunteer and staff led outings, especially during the spring and summer months; boat trips, tours of stately homes and gardens, theatre visits and more. Edwina Currie has run a book club at Nightingale for more than 10 years, which has attracted renowned authors including Tracey Chevalier and the late Beryl Bainbridge.

We have recently introduced a unique drama therapy programme run by students from the prestigious Central School of Speech and Drama (CSSD). The sessions help residents to communicate with others and express themselves more easily in a safe and playful environment.
