Dementia care

Here at Nightingale, we recognise the symptoms of dementia and we understand how to deal with them. Our dementia strategy focuses on improving the quality of life for every resident, from the moment they arrive and for the rest of their lives.

Each individual has varying levels of need, so while many dementia sufferers live in the residential units, others require more specialist support on the dedicated dementia wing. Here, staff are particularly in tune to the sensitive nature of the condition and provide appropriate care for those with severe symptoms.

Our residents with dementia are also able to participate in mainstream activities at the Home, particularly those involving music and art - the benefits of which are well researched and documented. Reminiscence can also be a valuable tool and Nightingale’s dedicated reminiscence centre is full of books, records, furniture and memorabilia, offering comfort to our residents and often inspiring storytelling and triggering memories. The Activities Team also uses cooking as a reminiscence tool and the Home’s relaxation room has a calming effect for severe dementia sufferers and those suffering from high levels of anxiety.

Our Residents Services Department is on hand to advise and assist and  please contact Pam Carter or Lorraine Cardozo  on 020 8673 3495
