Understanding your care options

Choosing a home for yourself, your partner or your relative is never easy. Usually people choose a home at a time of crisis. Sometimes a partner or carer is no longer able to cope at home. Sometimes accident or illness forces you to consider finding a home for short stay/respite care, or long term care. How can you decide what type of home is suitable? What type of care do you or your relative require? The following information aims to offer you information about the type of care you or your relative requires.

What type of home?

There are two different types of care homes - either care homes providing which is called residential care or nursing care;  or care homes providing both types of care.   Nightingale is the latter type of home and we are therefore able to care for people who may or may not need nursing care.

What if care needs change?

Nightingale is a dual registered home. We aim to assess care needs informally on a day to day basis and formally every six months. If a resident’s care needs change before the planned review date we will reassess. The aim of assessment is to enable us to work with you to provide the best possible care in the most appropriate setting within Nightingale.

How do I know what level of care is required?

If you or your relative wish to enter Nightingale we will carry out a full assessment of care needs and discuss the level of care required.

If you would like further information or would like to discuss care needs, please  contact  our Residents Services Department on 020 8673 3495 or email residentsservices@nightingale.org.uk
